ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer’s official mission playlist includes songs submitted by social media users along with a few of his own top picks. It starts with the ‘Space Symphony’ composed for Cosmic Kiss by Bernd Breiter of BigCityBeats and features classics such as David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ alongside more modern hits like Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’ and even an entry from Düsseldorf-based German punkrockers Die Toten Hosen.
Matthias thanks everyone who submitted suggestions for his playlist and says he is pleased with the final result.
“I like really like the Cosmic Kiss playlist,” he says. “Even if I’m not always in the mood to listen to it all, it is a nice compilation with something for every part of my journey.”
