Flight day 6 is an exciting and busy day for Andreas Mogensen as he will be operating a robot hand on Earth from space. The Interact Centaur rover incorporates a pair of arms to perform precision operations. Andreas will make use of haptic control – providing him with force feedback to let him feel for himself as the robotic arms encounter resistance. In this way, he can perform dexterous mechanical assembly tasks in the sub-millimetre range, remote-controlled from space. Follow the experiment on ground live:

To help Andreas setup the experiment equipment he will use the 3DVit software to test its efficiency in last-minute training. He has had no instructions on installing the haptic joystick and support arm for the Interact experiment but will follow the step-by-step 3D interactive instructions.

If time permits, Andreas has been asked to fill in a questionnaire on the 3DVit training while his memory is still fresh, but this can be reported later, back on Earth, as well.

Andreas will also do a first ‘hedonistic taste-testing’ for Demes. Until now, his sessions of tasting Spirulina muesli bars was simply reporting on how salty or sugary the samples taste. In this session he will provide more free comments on what the bars taste like for the researchers.

Andreas will be wearing the SkinSuit during the day for a second time and measure his height before and afterwards with the help of NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, a piece of paper and a tape measure. Lastly for SkinSuit he will take a microbial samples of the garment to see if it is suitable for wearing during long periods of time.

A second ride on the exercise bike is planned to today to continue testing wireless transmission of heart-rate and pedal-force as he rides.

The MobiPV test of video-goggles to let ground control look over an astronaut’s shoulder and offer advice is still stored in its travel case. Andreas will unpack it and start charging the batteries for the experiment run itself that is currently planned for flight day 10 this Friday.

The Space Headaches questionnaire must not be forgotten and Andreas will complete the daily questionnaire at some point during his busy schedule.
