Today NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren, Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui and cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko will return to Earth after living in space for five months.
Their landing on the Kazakh steppe is a rare nighttime event in freezing conditions.
Watch the undocking and landing of their Soyuz TMA-17M spacecraft below via NASA television. Tim Peake will be launched in four day’s time but his landing will be similar in the Summer of 2016 – without the freezing conditions.
