We would like to kick off this week with the work of Ruben Ros, a Dutch student who looked back at the first Moon landing and is confident that Europe is returning to the lunar surface with the Artemis programme.

This is, in his own words, what the art piece is about and how he worked on it:

“In my Art for Artemis piece you see an astronaut with footsteps extending far into the horizon. This symbolises the steps we have taken in the past. The astronaut in the drawing follows those steps again, so hopefully we can pick up where we left it.

I am currently in the second year of the Game-Art study at Media College Amsterdam (MBO), in the Netherlands.

I wanted to keep my art piece clean and professional, and that is why I used big shapes and simple colors.

I began by sketching multiple concepts. Eventually I chose the best concept and I asked people for feedback.

After the many feedback sessions, I began making the vector based version of my piece. That’s how I came to the final result.

My main inspiration were the first Moon landing images. When I think about it, I think about what Neil Armstrong said when he set the first foot on the Moon’s surface: “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

Based on this the main theme of my artwork is “We are going back”.

In my piece, the astronaut is following foot tracks – this is a symbolic way of showing how we retrace our steps to explore new things.

I am very excited to see what the Artemis programme will lead to, and I can’t wait until it finally launches!”
