On Tuesday 8 September all nine astronauts on the International Space Station will gather to discuss their mission during a news that will be broadcast by live on NASA Television at 14:10 GMT.
ESA is offering to ask one of your questions that you can submit here on the blog. Shortly before the event we will choose the best questions that will be read out directly to Danish ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen from the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.
This will be the first nine-person crew conference in almost two years. The astronauts represent five space agencies:
- NASA’s Scott Kelly, one-year crew member and Expedition 45 commander, and Kjell Lindgren
- Roscosmos cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, Expedition 44 commander, Mikhail Kornienko, one-year crew member, Oleg Kononenko and Sergei Volkov
- Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kimiya Yui
- European Space Agency’s Andreas Mogensen
- Kazakh Space Agency’s Aidyn Aimbetov
The news conference, arranged in coordination with all partners of the International Space Station will last 45 minutes and feature questions from media. ESA will allow some of its 10 minutes time to ask questions from the public via this blog.
We will select your question on relevance so check the iriss blog or the iriss website for background information and think of a great question! When you have thought of your question, enter it as a comment below.

Many astronauts say, that they experience almost philosophical/existential insights when floating through space and when looking at Planet Earth from above. You are on a sprinter mission and you have to work a lot. Have you had time to reflect on life and to enjoy your dream come true?
Just as the ISS has a functioning multi-national crew, do you @astro_andreas subscribe with an open-source policy via @UNOOSA to call for proposals addressing methods to remove Global #SpaceDebris ? Thanks for all you do and #GoodLuck
Greetings! Hope that fluid shift is not bothering you. I read that it goes away once your body adjust to the gravity change. How was your first night of weightless sleep? How was the ride in? Is your space adventure meeting your expectations? Any dizziness? What are your thoughts about floating flying through the ISS?
Meanwhile back on earth it is raining again in My state of Michigan, USA. It has been a very rainy summer. When I walk on my front yard, it feels like I am walking on sponges. That made mowing require more pushing power. The rain has made staining my deck a very slow process.
Godspeed
ISS crew consists of people from different date-line, When will they sleep?
Andreas, how quickly would you do it all over again?
What is the best in universe by your opinion?
What do you want to know in universe closer?
Thank you for answer.
I wish you much success and a pleasant stay.
Best regards
Milena
Understanding that the space station is constantly being pulled down to earth yet orbiting due to its speed; what does the microgravity effect personally feel like? If uncomfortable, what is done to combat this/these feeling(s)?
Hey Andreas! Have you managed to make time to view the earth in amongst your busy schedule of experiments on board the station? If so, what are your impressions of the planet from a few hundred kilometres up? Thanks!
Hi Andreas. In your schedule for day you should record some of the video messages from the Cupola observatory for educational purposes. Would it be possible for us to get to see a video from this? Can we get to see you in front of one or two of the windows, so we can get an idea of how big the windows are? And can we get to see what you can see through the window/windows?
Would you like to go back to the spacestation later on and stay for 6 months? If so, do you already know if this is a real possibility for you? Like are there already plans made to enable you to come back to the spacestation for a longer stay?
Best regards and keep up the good spirit and enjoy your stay at Iriss
If you plant a seed in microgravity which way will it grow?
And how do you get clean clothes in space?????
Hi Andreas,
How much free time do you have for one day in space and what you love to do then.
have a nice day
Stefan
In Space, what was the thing that was most different from what you imagined it would be? Was it better os worst?
Isn’t one of your goals to monitor lightning strikes from 400km above to look out for red sprites? Haven’t the other crewmembers been doing this already? What is it that you’re doing that is different from what’s been done in the past, instrumentally and procedurally?
Why is your stay so short? The flight to ISS must be very expensive so why only stay 8-10 days?
Have you been able to eat any traditional Danish food while on Station? I imagine an open faced sandwich could be unwieldy.
Congratulations on your first mission in space, Andreas!
How long have you wanted to go to space and/or become an astronaut? And was it easy to get used to the weightlessness and how did it feel at first?
Just a simple question Why are some of you wearing 2 watches!?!??
… And Andreas …. Remember to call you mom when you arrive Earth
I’m also very interested in the answer to this question – and to know what watches your fellow astronauts are wearing! Many thanks.
Hi Andreas and ISS crew,
It is great to follow your mission, you do very well. This year the weather phenonomem EL Nino seems to take place. Is that somethiing you or other ISS crew members can or has observed in the cloud cover over the Pacific? The shift of warm water from the western Pacific to the eastern side means more hot air in the western side -does that result in a denser cloud cover than in “normal” years which you can observe? Or is the temperature difference of 2-4C too little to make any oberservations on this? Or maybe the global weather systems is just too complex for such straight forward correlations?
Thanks
Niels
Hi Andrea,
According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, all processes slow down when a system moves at high speed, my question’s: How much younger are astronauts after a one year in space? Does it need to be speed of light to have a prominent impact on skin ageing?
Seeing the Earth from the ISS perspective does, obviously, impact on your philosophy of life/spirituality; How profoundly?
Why do pics of space taken from space never show any stars?
Thank you for answering my questions.
With warm regards Isabella.
Many of the experiments on board ISS revolve around the effects of zero-gravity on the human body, for longer/shorter periods of time, in regards to a coming Mars expedition. (Also lifesupport, food and water supply, etc.) Have there been any surprises regarding the results? When will humans, in your opinion, be able to travel that far? Would you go?
Greetings from Sønderborg, Denmark, Earth
Dear Andreas
On your behalf I am thrilled that your space dream has been fullfilled. Two questions:
What went through your mind the first time you floated into the Cupola and watched your home planet from space and have you spotted Denmark yet?
What is it like to be weightless and have you experienced any side effects from being in a zero gravity environment?
All the best
Lars Henrik Aagaard, Berlingske
Hello Andreas,
I hope everything is fine there. I am a Recruiter for the Space Industry and very passionate about science. I am curious, what surprised you the most the first time you were in space? And what was your favorite experiment and why?
Greetings from Darmstadt, Germany.
Hi Andreas,
If you could choose one experience from your trip so far and give everyone else that same experience, what would you choose and why?
Thank you, and have fun in space!
How is your freshly-arrived perception of how sound propagates inside the ISS at 0G, especially the air-propagated sound as when you talk among crew members? [assuming here you have been too busy to check how sound propagates through your solid furniture at zeroG =)]. If gravity has an effect on how sound propagates in air, how are you personally/psychologically affected by this? Will you be listening to some Nielsen symphonies with no headphones? Can you elaborate on these sound matters? Thank You and Hugs from Earth!
What do ya’ll do all day ? What do ya’ll think about? Do ya’ll share food? Do ya’ll build real friendships or does it depend on the stressor?
Thank you for your time and commitment. I hope you respond accordingly.
Warm regards,
Eva C. Rincon
Hi Andreas & ISS Crew
First of all as a Dane I am of course especially very proud of you Andreas but also of the entire ISS crew and your colleagues around the world working in cooperation with the scientific.
I imagine the fascinating view of our wonderful planet Earth is making a deep impression and raises a lot of new questions and concerns
But is anyone of you once in a while just sitting and stare out in the black which is surrounding us and any thoughts or reflections you want to share?
It is great to follow your mission and all the best to the entire crew.
Greetings from Copenhagen, Denmark
Basic Question: 9 ‘nauts and I thought only 8 beds. Considering special requirements – air circulation to prevent CO2 build up – where is the 9th ‘naut sleeping -‘hot bed’ system (sleeping in same bed on shifts as used on off-shore oil rigs?)
Hi Andreas ,
How did you feel after launch? Considering thousands of hours spent to get to that point.
PS:You are huge inspiration to me to fulfil my dreams
Hello Andreas. My son Pedro asked me if is It possible to ISS to collide with space debris. Could you please answer him? And have you seen some debris through the windows? Thank you and good work!
Hi Andreas,
Do you need to skip any planned experiments due to longer flight time to the station? Are they time/person depended or specific Esa experiments? Or can they be re-scheduled to be completed by other crew members at a later time?
Hi Andreas
When you spoke with the Danish Prime
Minister on Danish TV, you mentioned how thin and fragile the atmosphere looks from space, and how this sight reminded you of how important taking care of the planet is.
How can you and other astronauts create greater environmental awareness, and is it possible to convey your experience of the fragile atmosphere to “normal” people on Earth, without them going to space?
Cheers
Vincent, Denmark
Hi Andreas.
4. grade, Farsoe School, Denmark are following you and your mission with great interest. You are so cool. We have a million questions……..but here is a few.
What is the best thing about beeing in space?
If you tried to control the robot was it difficult?
Have you tried any other cool gadgets?
Hi Andreas….
Can you please post a picture of Oslo area,Norway.
What is normal temperature inside Space Station living area??
Greetings from Norway…
Regards…
John
What is the cost of your journey to #ISS and back to earth?
Hi!
Currently I live in the UK without my parents (They live in Sweden) to study physics, as I would dream of going into astronomy research later on. As my family lives quite far away, I sometimes get homesick, but i stay there as I really want to finish of my study.
Do you ever get homesick? And if so, what do you do to make this feeling less?
Enjoy your time at the ISS!
Anouk Wilstra, 17 years old
Hej Andreas! Did you got to eat your bonus food? Does it have the same taste as on earth? 🙂
Good luck and all the respect for everyone in the ISS!
Hi!
have you seen an unidentified flying object around the ISS?
(I’m not talking about aliens UFOs) just something weird on the space that you can’t explain?
Thanks! ; )
Hi Andreas
It seems like you are working very hard with only three days left of your stay on ISS.
Did you have time to let all the impressions sink in and enjoy your dream coming too?
Best regards, Jonas Salomonsen, Videnskab.dk
How much work is there for Mechatronics graduates in space and could you provide some detail into a few of the jobs please? Hope you enjoy your time in space and touch down safely when you get back home.
Hello Andreas! Would you like to be a space station longer than you plan to be? And how it felt to be a rocket ride?
HI ANDREAS
2 things
1) How are astronauts aboard the ISS protected from the harsh radiation of space?
2) I aspire to become an astronaut- my family isn’t so keen. First they thought it was a phase and now that they realize I’m serious they aren’t so keen. Any wise words?
Thank you so much for your time
Regards
Uma Krige – 19 years old.
Hi Andreas, Mikhail and all the space crew,
After many months in space in zero gravity, is terrestrial gravity does not lack a little ?
Do you want to feel your weight ? or not ;o)
I wish you all good health and a special “priviet” to Mikhail from France, in memory of our meeting in Parkent, Uzbekistan 2013 !!
Bepo
Hello andreas!
here is my question:
Would you like to meet a being from another planet in your lifetime?
What would be a procedure if someone would die aboard ISS? Would he be buried in space?
vorrei chiedere agli Astronauti se durante la permanenza
sulla I.S.S percepiscono cambiamenti nella elaborazione del pensiero , in pratica , il comportamento della Mente nella micro gravità .
