Antonio has worked at the European Astronaut Centre for only a few years, but he’s already been asked to be part of a number of important activities that we organise. Which means, he’s overbooked. Guess what? Last year I managed to get him to take charge of the CAVES debriefings, and this year he will be CAVECOM and act as CAVES mission director while I am with the astronauts during the extended caves exploration phase of CAVES2014. As an experienced (actually the lead) EUROCOM, and deputy lead of Crew Operations for the ESA Astronaut Office, he’ll be the cherry-on-the-cake addition to the already spectacular CAVES team, bringing International Space Station operations expertise with him, and making CAVES even more of a space analogue than it already is. Antonio joined us during the CAVES2014 dry runs, which took place in Sardinia early June. He helped us review our operations concept and procedures. By the way, did I tell you? Antonio has some experience as a speleologist himself.

Handy, huh?
