We are excited to welcome you to the very first post on the Accelerating Collaboration and Community Engagement for Space Safety Blog.
About Protect
The Protect team was established to contribute to safeguarding and protecting European assets from space debris and space weather interferences, in synergy with relevant national, EU or other European initiatives. Its efforts are implemented by the ESA Directorate of Operations, drawing upon the expertise and innovations of the Space Safety Programme (S2P).
Protect is structured around two main pillars:
- Toward a Zero Debris Future: Supporting the development and adoption of technologies, standards, and policies, in particular through the facilitation of the Zero Debris Charter, the establishment of a community of practice, and support to collective actions aligned with Zero Debris objectives.
- Toward Operational Space Weather Services in Europe: Connecting all relevant stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the establishment of reliable and accurate space weather services in Europe, for the protection of space assets and critical infrastructures on the ground.
In parallel, Protect is also exploring future challenges related to the sustainability and safety of space activities.
