(Update 9 May 16:35 CEST) Congratulations to the winner and all who took part in our fabulous “Where in the world is the ATV?” contest!
Last Friday, we invited ATV blog visitors to eyeball the mini-image of an ATV model below and tell us precisely ‘where in the world’ they thought it could be. Of course, it isn’t anywhere on this world (we gave a hint: ‘The title of this contest may be inaccurate’) – it’s on board the ISS. But where?
To find out – and to find out who won – click on ‘Continue reading’ below. Thanks to everyone who tweeted responses!
Here’s the full photo (original source is here):
Lo and behold! The photo shows astros (with little ATV) inside the US Destiny module! We circled the doughy ATV model floating at top right. The original NASA caption reads:
Expedition 27 crew members discuss mission activities in the Destiny laboratory of the ISS. Pictured clockwise from the left are Russian cosmonaut Alexander Samokutyaev, NASA astronaut Ron Garan, Russian cosmonaut Andrey Borisenko, all flight engineers; Russian cosmonaut Dmitry Kondratyev, commander; and European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli, flight engineer.
Winner
Thanks to @joecurran182 who sent in the winning and only fully correct response! (Joe: Fill in your postal mailing address and size here and we’ll send out a nifty ESA tee-shirt.)
Special mention goes to @jonathanfaull, @h_gen, @sky_watching, @fes66, @jackdearlove and @davidparmet, who all guessed or suspected it was on board the station.
We’d also like to thank @Space_Pete who brought NASA’s cool photo to our attention and @miya_space who kindly translated our twitter announcement into Japanese (どうもありがとう @miya_space-さん!).

inside the atv-2, kepler, or maybe colombus lab
Nice guess! Please note all entries must be sent via Twitter by mentioning @esaoperations and a description of your solution.
Cheers,

Congratulations @joecurran!
For the record, the precise location of the ATV model is the Aft-Port-Overhead corner of the Destiny Laboratory. Hopefully, the ISS crew will continue to move the ATV model around the station, so that we can have more “Where is ATV?” challenges!
Thanks everyone,
Looking forward to receiving my ESA tee-shirt 🙂
A great idea Pete, I`ll certainly do my bit to promote the next ”Where is ATV?” challenge.
