Update from LIRIS project engineer Olivier Mongrard from ATV-CC.
ATV-5 flew as expected within 7km below the ISS during the evening of Friday/Saturday, 8/9 August, and the telemetry received from the LIRIS cameras was good. A total of almost 2 hours image data were recorded.

Note that the images themselves will only be retrieved with their dedicated recorders when they are returned later this year aboard a Soyuz capsule. The ATV communication system would not allow transmitting such a large amount of data; we don’t have 4G up there…
The ISS cameras managed to catch ATV-5 as it was passing below somewhere above the Pacific ocean, and our colleagues at NASA kindly tweeted the pic.

After a team debrief at 2am, we had a short celebration with the LIRIS team before getting ready for the ‘real deal’ on Tuesday next week: the last ATV docking.
Time to get some rest!
