Please give a link where one can download the pdf in a normal way without going via Facebook or other social email-gathering futility. Grrr!!
Hi Martin: Just added a direct link! See post text above. Sorry for the frustration. — Daniel
Thanks Daniel,
I have a query: page 5 of pdf states: “Phasing, a set of orbital manoeuvres designed to take ATV from its injection point to a parking orbit, 2000 km ahead of the ISS”. I don’t understand the 2000 km figure. It does not correspond to the diagram at the bottom of page 9 – which is what I was told by ATV-CC. Is it a typo, or some orbital mechanics that is “above my head”?
I checked with the operations guys here at ATV-CC, and here’s the answer:
The number is essentially correct (although it could also be 1000 km or 2000km
behind the ISS – but probably the most common parking point would be as the brochure has it.
The text as stated is also correct but (especially for ATV-2, where we don’t plan to go to parking), “phasing” is best described as…
A set of orbital manoeuvres designed to take ATV from its injection point to a point around 40km behind and 5km below the ISS, ready to start the rendezvous operations.
Hope this helps…
