In preparation for liftoff in a few weeks’ time, the Copernicus Sentinel-2C satellite is now fully fuelled.
Working in two shifts the propulsion team from AGG Lampoldshausen carried out this hazardous task on Friday 16 August. They loaded Sentinel-2C’s tank with 133 kg of hydrazine and then pressurised the tank with helium up to 21 bars.
Everything was completed within the day and all was done safely.
The facility was then evacuated so that the team could switch ON the satellite – another hazardous job.
From another building, the Airbus team then ran their automated scripts. The commands to close the latch valves were also executed successfully. The satellite was switched OFF and left in a safe configuration over the weekend.
