Tim Peake tweeted an image of the International Space Station with cables floating everywhere today. In the background you can just make out colleague astronaut Tim Kopra. The Tims were working Monday 7 March on rerouting cables to upgrade the Space Station’s communication system.

The Common Communications For Visiting Vehicles (C2V2) is a system for the Space Station to communicate with visiting spacecraft in the future. The system will use S-band radio and cable connections to offer secure and reliable communications at all times a spacecraft visits the Station – from rendezvous and docking to its attached phase.

Tim Peake started in the morning by gathering the hardware, then Tim Kopra helped to begin routing the cables including ethernet cables. The operation took most of the morning with Tim Peake working from 07:45 to 12:15 GMT and Tim Kopra helping from 08:30 to 11:30 GMT. Operations will continue throughout the week.
