Introducing Stuart McAndrew

Stuart McAndrew is joining us next week for #SocialSpaceWA at New Norcia. He's an IT professional from Perth, Australia, but he has a passion for space. How so? In his spare time, he's developing his own ‪#‎PocketQube‬ satellite called OzQube-1. Posted by OzQube-1 on Wednesday, 1 October 2014   Its mission is to take images of the southern hemisphere, especially Australia, and to transmit them via amateur (HAM) radio to listeners all around the world. It's Australia's first PocketQube satellite, and it was created in my backyard shed!

SocialSpace at ESA’s new antenna inauguration

A little background info on our SocialSpace event next week in Australia! As you know, #SocialSpaceWA is being held in conjunction with the inauguration of the new 4.5 m-diameter antenna at New Norcia, the site of ESA’s existing 35 m deep-space dish, which routinely communicates with missions such as Rosetta, Mars Express, Gaia and LISA Pathfinder. The new tracking antenna, formally dubbed the “New Norcia Acquisition Aid NNO-2,” will be used for communicating with rockets and newly launched satellites, taking advantage of Western Australia’s ideal geographic location under the initial flight path of launchers departing from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Since 2002, ESA has operated a much larger 35 m-diameter...

New Norcia: Please confirm acceptance!

Have you received an invite to #SocialSpaceWA at New Norcia on 10/11 February? After a very detailed ranking of all the applicants last week – yes, the number of followers you have does matter, as does the level of activity in your SocMed account(s) – we mailed out invitations to the top applicants on Friday. At the same time, we also issued a waitlist notice to many (in fact, most) of those who are a bit further down the list. There are only a limited number of seats, so, if you've gotten an invitation, it is vital that you confirm your acceptance within Monday, 1 February, at 12:00 CET by return mail...
