As a run-up to testing a 3D visualisation on board training tool, ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen transferred the 3DViT training content from the International Space Station’s computer network to his iPad yesterday. In addition he verified that he can access the browser version of the 3D animation on a Space Station Computer.

Ground control knew of a limitation due to an expected software upgrade in the Space Station’s system that has not been done yet. Ground control were watching on video and provided instructions to assist Andreas during the activity and provided a workaround.

At the end Andreas confirmed successful conclusion of the technical verification and refamiliarisation. He is looking forward to use the tool for the On Board Training later in the morning which will cover Interact experiment hardware setup. Using the zoom function to zoom out beyond the Columbus laboratory Andreas remarked “This feels like an EVA”. An EVA stands for Extra-Vehicular Activity or spacewalk.
